Theile B. McVey is managing partner at Kassel McVey, a personal injury law firm based in Columbia, SC. McVey has dedicated her career solely to representing plaintiffs – the individuals and their loved ones injured or killed in personal injury cases such as vehicle accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, premises liability and product liability.

Theile McVey studied at Columbia College and graduated with honors in 1997, then graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2000. She briefly returned to her hometown of Charleston, South Carolina to practice law, but decided soon after to return to Columbia to practice law with John Kassel.

Theile partnered with John to form Kassel McVey, a personal injury litigation firm dedicated solely to representing plaintiffs – individuals and their loved ones injured or killed due to the negligence of others. She has tried many cases to verdict in South Carolina, including mesothelioma cases, several of which involved verdicts of $38,000,000, $29,000,000 $14,000,000 and over $5,000,000 and numerous nursing home cases.

Theile has received numerous awards and accolades from various organizations and legal bodies such as South Carolina Super Lawyer; Midlands Legal Elite in Personal Injury; Best Lawyers in America; 2017 Gold Compleat Lawyer Award from USC School of Law (the highest award given to alumnae of the school). She was also elected a member of the very prestigious International Society of Barristers, an invite-only organizations of top lawyers across various countries.

Theile served as President of  The South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ), the state’s leading plaintiff’s legal association. Prior to her new role as President of the SCAJ, she served as the association’s Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President, and President-Elect.

Theile is a proud member of National and South Carolina ABOTA. She led the Masters in Trial program in 2020. Theile served as President of ABOTA.  Prior to her role as President, she served as MIT Coordinator, Secretary/Treasurer, and President-elect.

Theile has also devoted countless hours towards the development of the legal profession, such as serving on the Arthurtown Project and Access to Justice committees and being a member of the Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar. She also chaired the Courthouse Keys, Lunch and Learn, Community Law Week, and Service to the Bar Committees. Theile is also a member of the American Association for Justice and the Richland County Bar Association.

At present, she and her husband Ian are members of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, where they have taught Sunday School to 4th graders. Theile also served on her church’s Children’s Committee and was a member of the liturgy preparation team and served on the Grant Committee for the Trinity Cathedral Bazaar.

She is married to Ian McVey and they have two children, Molly and James.  They are her favorite people.
