John Kassel of Kassel McVey participated on the winning team in the ABOTA (American Board of Trial Advocates) Masters in Trial Program at the University of South Carolina School of Law on February 3.

ABOTA is an organization dedicated to preserving the right to a jury trial. Lawyers from across the state attend the annual ABOTA Masters in Trial Program live or by video conference, and gain Continuing Legal Education credits necessary to maintain their licenses. The Association seeks attorneys with integrity, skill, and civility who can help younger attorneys to develop a higher level of trial advocacy and to educate the general public about the Seventh Amendment’s significance.

Each year this program takes an actual legal case and compresses the case into a one-day trial with closed-circuit viewing of the jury deliberation. This year’s case was a medical malpractice case alleging a failure to diagnose an impending heart attack.
